| Better Balance
Attendance in Falls Risk Assessment on February 1, 2012 is MANDATORY for enrollment in this "Better Balance" class. If you do not attend this assessment, you will not be allowed to join the exercise class. Sign up for the Falls Prevention Education and Assessment portions first. This description is for information purposes only. - INSTRUCTORS IN THE "FALLS RISK ASSESSMENT" CLASS WILL REGISTER THOSE NEEDING "BETTER BALANCE".
This "Better Balance" exercise program, designed for seniors 55+ years of age, incorporates strength and resistance training and balance-specific exercises that target the three sensory systems - visual, muscular and neurologic - involved in balance control. The goal of this class is to improve balance through increased strength and body awareness in challenging situations. This class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays and each class includes approximately 25 minutes of strength training for balance and approximately 25 minutes of sensory training. Helps to increase ability to prevent and manage falls. Great complement to any exercise program. As with any exercise program, participants should check with their physician before starting a new exercise regimen.
